NCPRE Showcases India's Progress in Tandem Solar Cell Technology at HOPV 2026

Prof. Dinesh Kabra, co-PI of NCPRE represented India at the prestigious Hybrid and Organic Photovoltaics (HOPV 2026) conference held in Uppsala, Sweden, where he delivered an invited talk on the recent progress of halide perovskite-based tandem solar cell technology. The research is being supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), and is aimed at developing next-generation photovoltaic technologies capable of surpassing the efficiency limits of conventional silicon solar cells.

During the conference, Prof. Kabra highlighted the significant advances made by his research team in the development of high-efficiency tandem solar cells based on halide perovskite semiconductors. The presentation showcased India's growing capabilities in advanced photovoltaic research and emphasized the strategic importance of tandem solar technology for future energy security and climate-action goals.

HOPV is recognized as one of the leading international forums for researchers and industry experts working in emerging photovoltaic technologies. The event provided an excellent platform to engage with global leaders in the field, exchange technical insights, and discuss recent scientific breakthroughs shaping the future of solar energy.

Beyond the scientific presentation, the visit enabled valuable networking with internationally renowned researchers, technology developers, and industrial stakeholders. These interactions provided an opportunity to update the global research community on the progress achieved by the IIT Bombay team under MNRE-supported initiatives and to explore potential collaborative opportunities with groups possessing complementary expertise. The participation underscores IIT Bombay's and India's commitment to advancing cutting-edge renewable energy technologies and strengthening international partnerships that can accelerate the commercialization of high-efficiency tandem solar cells for terrestrial and future space-energy applications.
