For the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) to succeed, the availability of trained manpower is a pre-requisite. Various reports suggest that between 60,000 to 200,000
trained people would be required in the area of solar photovoltaics by the year 2020, of which about 25,000 would be at the graduate and post-graduate levels.
Already, we are witnessing a severe shortage of available manpower in the PV industry. It is clear that an aggressive,far-reaching programme for manpower
development will underpin India's solar mission. The National Centre for Photovoltaic Research and Education (NCPRE) aims to provide the framework to meet this need.
