About NCPRE Research Education & Training Industry Interaction Facilities People
Overview

For the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) to succeed, the availability of trained manpower is a pre-requisite. Various reports suggest that between 60,000 to 200,000 trained people would be required in the area of solar photovoltaics by the year 2020, of which about 25,000 would be at the graduate and post-graduate levels. Already, we are witnessing a severe shortage of available manpower in the PV industry. It is clear that an aggressive, far-reaching programme for manpower development will underpin India's solar mission. The National Centre for Photovoltaic Research and Education (NCPRE) aims to provide the framework to meet this need.

Objectives

The NCPRE focuses on the training of fresh post-graduate and graduate scientists and engineers specializing in photovoltaics (PV), as well as providing training to scientists and engineers already employed in industry.

The NCPRE will:

  • Design and run appropriate post-graduate programmes in PV at IIT Bombay GIVELINK TO THE MATERIAL GIVEN BELOW

  • Design and offer appropriate undergraduate programmes and courses in Energy at IIT Bombay GIVELINK TO THE MATERIAL GIVEN BELOW

  • Create appropriate course modules, including laboratory modules, which can be replicated at other institutions and universities GIVELINK TO THE MATERIAL GIVEN BELOW

  • Train teachers at other institutions and universities GIVELINK TO THE MATERIAL GIVEN BELOW

  • Offer IITB's courses through distance education channels GIVELINKS TO THE MATERIAL GIVEN BELOW

  • Design and run special programmes (including certificate-level and diploma programmes) for industry personnel on a part-time basis GIVELINK TO THE MATERIAL GIVEN BELOW

  • Run short-term continuing education programmes for industry personnel GIVELINK TO THE MATERIAL GIVEN BELOW

  • Train master trainers for teaching technicians GIVELINK TO THE MATERIAL GIVEN BELOW

  • Provide access to a running fabrication and characterization facilities for researchers and industry users GIVELINK TO THE MATERIAL GIVEN BELOW
